Workshops for Everyone
By Bernadette Mettarod

On personals pages, I list my favorite date as “workshops.” I love to go to weekend workshops! I don’t like biking, hiking or sports. I don’t watch TV. I don’t ski. Why aren’t workshops among the leisure activities on those dating sites? Surely, I’m not the only person who finds that to be one of the best leisure activities there is? My ideal date would be to go hear Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson or Byron Katie. Actually, lately, my favorite has been Steven Sashen. You could say I’m a weekend workshop junkie.

My friends who never liked school still very much enjoy taking workshops. Why is that?

Workshops are very practical. School never was. There are workshops on improving your financial health, like Quantum Wealth at www.quantumwealth.com. Do you want to have a great relationship? Try Institute for Spiritual Partnerships at www.higheralignment.com. Maybe you’d like to take Sondra Ray’s Loving Relationships Training or Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks’ workshops at www.hendricks.com. Do you want to learn to meditate? Do a Google search for Transcendental Meditation, Rudra Meditation or Vipassana Meditation. For more active workshops, try Tai Chi, Yoga or Pilates.

If you ask me, a workshop is way better than a bar for the weekend. It gives me a chance to go deeper into my life. I really love talking to people about things that really matter in life. I meet friends with similar interests. I learn to handle situations and people better. Instead of adding to my problems with superficial socializing, workshops help me to understand and solve the various situations of my life. I get to connect in ways that are meaningful. Workshops are stress reducing rather than stress producing!

I do go to parties sometimes or group chanting or group meditations that I find out about through some of my workshops. Maybe I go to a yoga workshop and then there’s a potluck dinner after. People bring healthy food to share. It’s fun. It’s also just a bit different from some beer-drinking night with the boys or a game of Texas Hold ‘Em.
